For companies that produce and distribute hundreds
of items such as books, journals, manuals, guides, tee-shirts,
and other various materials, Innovative Office Systems
(IOS) developed Publication Manager.. To effectively
organize data on these items, companies demand the need
for a comprehensive and integrated system to organize
information, track orders, keep schedules, analyze performance
and produce reports on these items. Subsequently, the
ability for expansion is fundamental in order to help
aid current and future needs. This system was fueled
from data residing on a Microsoft SQL Server database.
The outcome of this effort is the Publication
Manager (PM). PM was an integrated product that consists
of three applications:
- Publication
Manager
- Books
Manager,
- Catalog
Items Manager.
PM is a Multi-Tier Client/Server application
developed using Microsoft Visual Studio 6.0. COM and
COM+ technologies were extensively used to build a middle-tier
layer of the application. The database connectivity
was accomplished using ADO and MDAC 2.6. It is an entirely
Object-Oriented system and data-driven through a data-dictionary.
PM uses several state-of-the-art techniques such as
dynamic GUI building, plug and play components, generalized
error handling mechanism, automated process workflow,
and ad-hoc query building. |
